September 10th Platform Update: More Control, Faster Payouts, and a Fan Favorite Format Returns!

We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes refining the Melee platform—and today, we’re excited to roll out a batch of quality-of-life updates designed with you, our Organizers, in mind. These changes were shaped by your feedback, and we’re thrilled to bring them to life.

Two-Game Matches Are Back!

You asked. We listened. The Two-Game Match format is officially back on Melee!

With official support of Lorcana moving to another platform, we made a hasty decision to remove Two-Game Matches from Melee. Recently though, many Organizers as well as players, have been asking for us to bring it back as they have no other option to continue hosting the format. With our focus on keeping in touch with (or supporting) the community, we’ve decided to reinstate the format on Melee to ensure users that love the format have access to it.

Venue & Location Editing

Previously, needing to change a venue meant recreating the entire tournament. Not anymore.

You can now create, change, link, or remove a Location directly from the Tournament Edit Page. Whether you forgot to attach a location during setup or your event is moving to a new space last minute, updating it is now quick, easy, and painless.

Entry Fee Reimbursements Just Got Faster

We’re accelerating your cash flow.

Starting this month, entry fee reimbursements will be processed every Thursday for tournaments completed (have to be in “Ended” status) in the previous Monday–Sunday window. That means your weekend events will be reimbursed up to five days earlier than before.

This change ensures that organizers will receive funds quicker, freeing up cash to reinvest in your communities, marketing, or prizing—because you shouldn’t have to wait to be paid for a great event. You can read more about our Entry Fee and Payment Policies here.

Our next sprint includes a feature many of you have been asking for, and we’re so excited to be weeks away from providing you with our biggest quality of life improvement ever! For starters, we’ve fixed our issues with single-tournament cloning so now ALL areas of a tournament, which includes the phase, will be cloned when you do so on the Tournament Edit Page. We’ll also be rolling out the ability for you to set your tournaments to be weekly or monthly recurring, automatically generating your future tournaments for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where can I find the Two-Game Match format option?
A: When creating a tournament, you’ll find it on the Tournament Controller when creating your Phase. Locate the section that has “Best of Three” as its default and adjust to “Two-Game Matches” and you’re set. Just be sure that if you’re editing a tournament already set to Best of Three that you delete the phase then create another with Two-Game Matches!

Q: Can I update the venue of an already-published tournament?
A: Yes! Navigate to the Tournament Edit Page and you’ll see full control to change locations or add a new one. If you need to edit the location you’ve already selected, you can do that on your Organization Dashboard

Q: Do I need to do anything to start receiving reimbursements faster?
A: Nope. The new Thursday payout schedule is already live for all eligible tournaments.

Q: Are these changes available for all games on Melee?
A: Yes—these improvements apply across all supported games on the platform.

Q: What if I have feedback about other features I’d like to see?
A: We’d love to hear it! You can share your feedback through email at Contact@Melee.gg
